If you sell with FBA, the Amazon Inventory Ledger report is the single best place to see what really happened to every unit you sent to Amazon: received, sold, returned, moved, lost, found or damaged. Most sellers never open it, and that is exactly how lost inventory goes unnoticed. I use this report every month to reconcile FBA inventory for clients, and this guide explains how to find it, what each view and column means, and how to use it to catch money Amazon may owe you.

Key Takeaways

  • The Inventory Ledger replaced older FBA reports such as Inventory Event Detail in January 2023.
  • It has two views: Summary (totals by SKU and disposition) and Detailed (every individual event, near real-time).
  • Find it in Seller Central under Reports → Fulfillment → Inventory → Inventory Ledger.
  • Compare Lost, Found and Damaged units to spot inventory you may be reimbursed for.
  • A simple monthly reconciliation takes about 30 minutes and protects your margins.

What Is the Amazon Inventory Ledger Report?

The Inventory Ledger is a Seller Central report that tracks the movement of your FBA inventory, from your starting balance through receipts, customer orders, returns, adjustments and removals to your ending balance. It replaced six older reports, including Inventory Event Detail and Daily Inventory History, which Amazon retired at the end of January 2023.

Think of it as a bank statement for your stock: every unit coming in or going out should be explained by an event.

How to Find and Download the Inventory Ledger

  1. In Seller Central, go to Reports → Fulfillment.
  2. Under Inventory, click Inventory Ledger.
  3. Choose Summary view or Detailed view.
  4. Set the date range, and for the summary view choose daily, weekly or monthly aggregation, plus country or fulfillment-center level.
  5. Click Generate report, then Download the CSV file.

Tip: Export the same month every time (for example on the 3rd of each month) so you build a clean history you can compare.

Key Summary Columns Explained

The disposition column tells you the condition of the units, such as sellable, customer damaged, carrier damaged, warehouse damaged, expired or defective.

How to Reconcile Your FBA Inventory (Step by Step)

  1. Download the Summary view for last month at country level, monthly aggregation.
  2. For each SKU, check: Starting balance + Receipts + Returns + Found + Transfers In − Shipments − Removals − Lost − Damaged − Disposed − Transfers Out = Ending balance.
  3. Filter SKUs where Lost or Damaged is greater than Found.
  4. Open the Detailed view for those SKUs to see the exact dates, fulfillment centers and reference IDs.
  5. Check whether Amazon already reimbursed those units in the Reimbursements report.
  6. Log anything unresolved in a tracker and follow up before the deadline.

Using the Ledger to Find Reimbursements

Units marked Lost or Damaged in Amazon’s warehouse should be found again or reimbursed. If the ledger shows more lost than found, and no matching reimbursement, you may be owed money. Compare inbound Receipts with what you shipped to catch short-received shipments too.

See my Amazon FBA reimbursement guide for how claims work, and use my free FBA reimbursement tracker to log every case and deadline.
